Pelican


PELICAN, American white (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos), is a migrant from southern California and Mexico, arriving each spring to breed at Stum Lk in the CHILCOTIN. It is the only pelican colony in BC. About 150 pairs of birds nest on 5 islands in the lake. They feed on INSECTS and small fish, which they herd into shallows before scooping them into their distinctive long yellow bills.
