PENDER CANAL was dug in 1911 through an isthmus joining N and S PENDER ISLANDS. In the process 2 ARCHAEOLOGICAL sites were discovered and major excavation took place here from 1984 to 1986. The sites date from between 6,000 and 400 years ago and have provided much of the known information about the middle and late periods in south coastal PREHISTORY.
