PHARMACARE is BC's government drug insurance program. Introduced at the beginning of 1974, it assists in paying for eligible drugs and designated medical supplies outside the hospital system. In 2003 the Liberal government introduced a revised plan which it called Fair PharmaCare. Under this plan financial assistance for the cost of prescription drugs is tied to income.
