Pinantan Lake

PINANTAN LAKE is a recreational district 28 km east of KAMLOOPS. The Pinantan Valley was an important root-gathering area for people of the SECWEPEMC (Shuswap) First Nations. It was ranched (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) in the 1860s by Donald McPherson. George Wilson was the first settler at the lake in 1887. A former CPR employee, Antoine Pene, built a FISHING lodge in the early 1900s. Paul Lake Provincial PARK is nearby.
