Rainbow Range

RAINBOW RANGE is a range of multicoloured volcanic peaks in south TWEEDSMUIR PROVINCIAL PARK west of ANAHIM LAKE. They are the remnants of volcanoes that were active about 10 million years ago. Through the actions of weathering, erosion and oxidation of the various minerals that make up the mountains, they are stained and streaked with red, yellow and purple hues. This colouring is so dramatic that aboriginal people used to call them the "Bleeding Mountains."
