RED MOUNTAIN SKI AREA, consisting of Red and Granite Mts, is a ski resort at ROSSLAND in the W KOOTENAY. It was the site of the first Canadian downhill championships in 1898, and the first chairlift in western Canada in 1947. The area has produced more members of the national ski team than any other, including Nancy GREENE and Kerrin LEE-GARTNER, both Olympic gold medallists. In 2004 new investors renamed the area Red Resort and began a major expansion of facilities.
