REGIONAL DISTRICTS are units of local government created in 1965 to deliver services to people living outside municipal areas and to allow municipalities to provide common services on a shared basis. Districts are governed by boards that are partly elected directly and partly appointed by municipal councils within the district. The province is divided into 28 regional districts.
