Richfield


RICHFIELD was a GOLD RUSH town on Williams Crk near BARKERVILLE in the CARIBOO. Established in 1861, it consisted of a series of rough wooden miners' shacks the first summer that GOLD was mined on the creek. When the mines turned out to be the richest in the district, stores, restaurants and, above all, saloons, were added. In 1862 Lt Henry Palmer, deputy commissioner of lands and works, named the town Richfield. It became the site of government buildings for the area, with a jail, courthouse...
