Rock Creek


ROCK CREEK, 65 km southeast of PENTICTON on the KETTLE R, was the site of a GOLD RUSH from 1860 to 1861, during which a rowdy boomtown materialized with the usual hotels and saloons (see ROCK CREEK WAR). By 1862 most prospectors had left for the CARIBOO, though some MINING continued until the 1930s. A small permanent settlement materialized in the late 1880s around a stop on an early wagon road.
