ROCKFORD, 45 km south of KAMLOOPS on the old NICOLA R Valley wagon road to SPENCES BRIDGE, was the site of Robert Scott's Rockford House, an 1880s inn "conducted on temperance principles," according to its post office application. James Aird and William Frisken established ranches (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) here in the same era, and Albert Smith built a hotel that burned down in 1901.
