ROSS, Flora Amelia, asylum matron (b 1842, San Juan Island, WA; d 2 Nov 1897, New Westminster). She was the daughter of an HBC trader and his mixed-blood wife. After a brief, abusive marriage to Paul Hubbs, an American customs agent, she reverted to her maiden name and in 1870 began working with the mentally ill, an activity she continued for the rest of her life.
