RUBY CREEK, on the north shore of the FRASER R, 13 km west of HOPE in the FRASER VALLEY, is a former CPR depot. Here crews changed and "helper" locomotives were added to negotiate the mountainous section to the east. Nearby was a STO:LO village named Xwelich, or Wahleach, and the long-deserted AGRICULTURAL settlement of Hunterville, centred on Henry Hunter's pre-WWI store. Low-quality gemstones are found here and in nearby Garnet Crk.
