Saanich

SAANICH, district municipality, pop 108,265 (2006), located on the Saanich Peninsula immediately north of VICTORIA, is the largest community by population on Vancouver Island. Incorporated in 1906, it is one of the oldest AGRICULTURAL areas in the province. The municipality retains much of its rural character, although its southern portion merges into the urban spread of Victoria proper. A bedroom community serving the capital region, it contains one-third of the population of Greater Victoria.
