Sardis


SARDIS, 4 km south of CHILLIWACK in Chilliwack municipality, is an early FRASER VALLEY farming community. Allen C. Wells settled here in 1866 and built a large progressive farm, Edenbank, site of BC's first creamery and cheese factory (1885) and first DAIRY co-operative. A Methodist RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL for aboriginal children, the COQUALEETZA Institute, opened in the 1890s. A training centre for army engineers, now closed, was established in 1949.
