SEAMOUNTS are underwater volcanic peaks rising steeply from the ocean floor. There are many thousands of these formations in the Pacific basin. The 2 largest along the BC coastline are named Bowie and Union. Bowie Seamount lies about 180 km west of the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS, where it rises 3,000 m to within 25 m of the ocean surface.
