SHADBOLT, Jack Leonard, artist (b 4 Feb 1909, Shoeburyness, England; d 22 Nov 1998, Burnaby). He arrived in BC in 1912 with his family. After graduating from teachers' college in VICTORIA, he taught art to children in DUNCAN from 1929 to 1931 and in VANCOUVER from 1932 to 1937. As a young man he met Emily CARR, who strongly influenced his efforts to paint the BC landscape. At the same time he studied in New York, Paris and London.
