SHAUGHNESSY, Thomas George, railway executive (b 6 Oct 1853, Milwaukee, WI; d 10 Dec 1923, Montreal). He was already an experienced railwayman when he came to Canada in 1882 to join the CPR as general purchasing agent in Montreal. He proved his worth to the company during the construction period of the 1880s, when his careful control of spending was credited with staving off bankruptcy.
