SHELLEY, a DAKELH (Carrier) village and LOGGING settlement 15 km northeast of PRINCE GEORGE on the FRASER R and the CNR, is named after a railway contractor, Sinclair McLean, an innovative logger who moved timber with horse-drawn carriages that ran on pole "rails." He also established a SAWMILL here in 1923; it operated under several different owners until the 1970s.
