SIRDAR is a recreational community on Duck Lk 18 km north of CRESTON. It got its start in 1900 as a railway depot and maintenance facility for Kootenay Landing, the CPR's steamship terminal at the south end of nearby KOOTENAY LK. It was named after Lord Kitchener, who became "sirdar" or commander of the Egyptian Army in 1892.
