SKUNK, striped (Mephitis mephitis), is a cat-sized member of the weasel family. It is black with white stripes down the length of its back. An omnivore, it feeds on PLANTS, INSECTS, small mammals and birds' eggs. The female gives birth in May to a litter of 4–7. Skunks are mainly active at night and spend the day sleeping in burrows.
