SMITH, Shannon, swimmer (b 28 Sept 1961, Vancouver). She began breaking Canadian SWIMMING records at age 10 and continued breaking them until her early retirement from competition in 1978. In 1976, having already amassed 34 Canadian records, she broke the 200-m freestyle Commonwealth mark. She attended the 1976 US nationals and won gold in the 800-m freestyle and bronze in the 400 m.
