SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION (SPEC) is a VANCOUVER-based ENVIRONMENTAL group. Founded in Dec 1968 by Gwen and Derrick MALLARD and a small group of activists, SPEC has campaigned against uranium mining, auto emissions, oil spills and watershed LOGGING. The society is particularly concerned with issues affecting the quality of life in urban areas: traffic congestion, water and air quality, sewage treatment and public transit.
