Stanton, Jim

STANTON, Jim, guide (b 1885, Snohomish, WA; d 1978, Knight Inlet). After selling a garage business in Seattle in 1919, he and his wife Laurette bought a boat and cruised up the coast as far as KNIGHT INLET, where they lived for many years trapping furs and guiding hunters and fishers. Laurette died in 1961 but Jim remained at their homestead at the mouth of the Klinaklini R until his death. Their life is described in Grizzlies in Their Backyard (1956) by Beth Day.
