STEEVES, Dorothy Gretchen (Biersteker), politician (b 26 May 1891, Amsterdam, Netherlands; d 9 May 1978, Vancouver). She studied law at the Univ of Leyden and practised in Amsterdam and the Hague before joining the Dutch civil service during WWI. Despite a privileged family background, she was a member of the Socialist Party of Holland, a suffragist and a pacifist.
