STEWART, William, union leader (b 1912, Scotland; d 1974, Vancouver). He immigrated to BC as a young man, and he first became prominent in the LABOUR MOVEMENT as an organizer of the Hotel and Restaurant Workers at a time when the union's mostly female membership was fighting for recognition and better working conditions.
