STURDY, Martha, designer (b 1942, Vancouver). She dropped out of art school to raise a family and work, and it was not until the mid-1970s that she was able to return to the EMILY CARR INSTITUTE OF ART & DESIGN and complete her degree. Originally known for her bold jewellery made from SHIPBUILDING resin, she subsequently branched out into housewares and furniture and developed her creations into a multi-million-dollar design business with customers around the world.
