SUN YAT-SEN CLASSICAL CHINESE GARDEN in Vancouver's CHINATOWN was the first full-scale classical scholar's garden built outside China. It opened on 24 Apr 1986. Modelled after classical gardens developed in Suzhou during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), it was constructed, at a cost of $5.3 million, by a team of artisans from Suzhou, who spent months constructing the garden, using no nails, screws or power tools.
