Swanson Bay


SWANSON BAY was a North Coast company town on the mainland shore of Graham Reach, midway up the INSIDE PASSAGE. It was the site of BC's first pulp mill, established in 1909 (see PULP AND PAPER). The community, which also was a LOGGING centre with several SAWMILLS, reached a population of 500. The town was named for John Swanson, a steamer captain with the HBC. E.H.
