SWIFTSURE INTERNATIONAL YACHT RACE is an annual yacht race first held in 1930. It runs from VICTORIA out past the mouth of JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT and back, a distance of 140.4 nautical miles. It takes place in late May and has been hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club since 1951. The Juan de Fuca Race, a separate 78.3 nm race for smaller sailboats, was inaugurated in 1962 and the mid-distance (103.4 nm) Cape Flattery Race started in the 1980s.
