TA TA CREEK, 30 km north of CRANBROOK near the KOOTENAY R, is a small LOGGING and ranching (see AGRICULTURE) settlement. MINING was important in the early days and a hotel was built here in 1918. The name comes from the last words heard from a horse thief who escaped his captors at this spot.
