Taghum

TAGHUM, pop 205, on the CPR and the north side of the KOOTENAY R in the W KOOTENAY, was originally called Williams Siding. It was the site of A.G. Lambert & Co's lumberyard and planer plant from 1905 to 1933. The LOGGING and milling was done along Sproule Crk to the north and the rough lumber flumed to the planer. Many DOUKHOBORS moved here. The name is a CHINOOK JARGON word for "six"; Taghum was 6 miles (10 km) west of NELSON.
