Tanner, Elaine "Mighty Mouse"


TANNER, Elaine "Mighty Mouse," swimmer (b 22 Feb 1951, Vancouver). Widely considered Canada's all-time best female swimmer, she specialized in the backstroke, butterfly and individual medley but also competed on medley and freestyle relay teams. She grew up in W VANCOUVER, started SWIMMING when she was 9, began breaking national records in 1965 and astonished the swimming world at the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Jamaica by winning 4 gold medals and 3 silvers, an individual record for females....
