TODD, Jacob Hunter, merchant, pioneer salmon canner (b 17 Mar 1827, Brampton, ON; d 10 Aug 1899, Victoria). Raised on a farm in Ontario, he moved to VICTORIA in 1862 and established himself as a merchant. From 1863 to 1873 he ran a successful general store in BARKERVILLE. When the gold ran out (see GOLD RUSH, CARIBOO) he shifted his business to Victoria and established a wholesale grocery firm, J.H. Todd & Son, which supplied goods to the Interior.
