TOLKO INDUSTRIES LTD began in 1961 as Lavington Planer Mill, built by Harold Thorlakson and his sons. The company expanded steadily, buying up small mills in the BC Interior and acquiring Balco Industries at Heffley in 1987. In the 1980s the company expanded into Alberta with mills at High Prairie and, later, High Level. In 1997 Tolko acquired a PULP AND PAPER MILL and SAWMILL at The Pas, Manitoba.
