TOPLEY, pop 116, 47 km northwest of BURNS LAKE on the BULKLEY R and the CNR, was first settled during the construction of the GRAND TRUNK PACIFIC RWY. The townsite, named after pioneer William J. Topley, was not surveyed until 1927. LOGGING and MINING have been important in the area.
