TOWNSEND, Billy "Blond Tiger," boxer (b 6 May 1909 Durham, England; d 12 May 1985, Vancouver). He moved to NANAIMO with his family at age 2, began BOXING when he was 14 and turned professional 5 years later. After winning the Canadian lightweight and welterweight championships he toured N America, particularly making a name for himself in New York.
