Trekka

TREKKA was the first small Canadian yacht to circle the world. Laurent Giles designed the 6.25-m wooden yawl and John Guzzwell, a British immigrant, built it behind a fish and chip shop in VICTORIA, outfitting it with a 4-hp motor and cotton sails. The name came from the South African word "trek," to make a journey. Guzzwell set off across the Pacific Ocean in Sept 1955 and returned to a hero's welcome 4 years and 52,800 km later.
