Trice, Allan "Al"


TRICE, Allan "Al," diver, inventor (b 18 Sept 1929, Vancouver). As a commercial diver using both scuba and hard-hat equipment in the 1950s and 1960s he logged more than 12,000 hours underwater. The allure of deeper diving led to experiments with constant-volume dive suits and the decision that some type of one-atmosphere capsule was a necessity. Frustrated by attempts to buy a 2-person submersible, Trice, Don Sorte and Mack Thompson formed International Hydrodynamics Co (HYCO) in the mid-1960s...
