TYEE () , a CHINOOK JARGON word meaning "chief," is the name applied to chinook SALMON weighing more than 13.5 kg. This tradition was inaugurated by the Tyee Club of BC, formed by a group of CAMPBELL RIVER sport fishers in 1924. To be eligible for membership in the club, a fisher has to catch one of the giant salmon using light tackle and a rowboat. The club record, a 32-kg monster, was registered in 1968.
