TYNEMOUTH, SS, was one of 3 "bride ships" carrying unmarried girls and young women from England to settle in BC during 1862–63. The emigration was sponsored by Anglican and women's groups in England in an attempt to elevate the moral tone of the colony by providing British women for marriage.
