Van Norman, Charles Burwell Kerrens


VAN NORMAN, Charles Burwell Kerrens, architect (b 1906, Meaford, ON; d 1975, Vancouver). He arrived in VANCOUVER in 1928 after studies at Univ of Manitoba and joined the firm of Townley and Matheson, then established his own firm in 1930. He was an early exponent of Modern Expressionist ARCHITECTURE in the city. Major commissions included the Burrard Building (1956), the Customs Building on Pender St (1950–54), the Beach Towers apartment complex (the city's first highrise cluster, 1964–68)...
