VIVIAN ENGINE WORKS was a marine engine manufacturer, founded in VANCOUVER in 1909 by Will Vivian (1890–1965). It built many of the small gasoline units used to motorize the gillnet FISHING fleet in the years before WWI. In the 1920s Vivian was the first Canadian company to build a marine diesel engine; this unit became its speciality and the key to its expansion.
