WALKEM, George Anthony, lawyer, politician, premier 11 Feb 1874–27 Jan 1876, 25 June 1878–12 June 1882 (b 15 Nov 1834, Newry, Ireland; d 13 Jan 1908, Victoria). He came to Canada with his parents in 1847, and after studying law in Montreal he was called to the bar in Quebec (1858) and Ontario (1861).
