Wapiti Lake

WAPITI LAKE  () , 3.76 sq km, in the ROCKY MTS 60 km south of TUMBLER RIDGE, is the centre of one of the most important FOSSIL finds in N America. The mountains surrounding the lake contain fossilized remains of animals that lived in an ancient sea 210–250 million years ago. The site was discovered in 1947 and has produced evidence of many prehistoric species, mainly fish, that existed before the DINOSAURS....
