, pop 259, is a MINING and AGRICULTURAL settlement on the CPR and Wasa Lk, near the KOOTENAY R 30 km north of CRANBROOK. It was named after Vasa, a coastal town in Finland, by Nils Hanson, an early settler who became the first postmaster. Wasa Lake Provincial PARK is popular for swimming and boating, and nearby Wasa Slough is a wildlife sanctuary.
