WINCH, Ernest Edward, bricklayer, politician (b 22 Mar 1879, Harlow, England; d 11 Jan 1957, Vancouver). He visited Canada and VANCOUVER for the first time when he was 19, but work was scarce and he ended up returning to England. After training as a bricklayer, he came back to BC in 1910 with his wife and children, this time for good. His construction work led him to the LABOUR MOVEMENT and socialist politics.
