WINFIELD, an orchard settlement 30 km south of VERNON near Hwy 97 in the OKANAGAN VALLEY, was named after Winfield Lodge, the home of Thomas Wood, justice of the peace, stockraiser and homesteader here in 1871. The village developed as an important fruit-packing centre in the 1920s. See also TREE FRUITS.
