WOODWARD, VERNON CROMPTON, "WOODY", fighter pilot, administrative officer (b 22 Dec 1916, Victoria; d there 26 May, 2000). Woodward grew up in Victoria. In 1938 he travelled to the United Kingdom and joined the Royal Air Force. After flight training he was posted to Egypt in May 1939 to join No. 33 Squadron, outfitted with Gloster Gladiator biplanes.
