WORK, John, fur trader (b 1791, Derry, Ireland; d Dec 1861, Victoria). Born John Wark, he altered his name slightly when he joined the HBC in 1814. He arrived in BC in 1822 and was a member of the party that explored the lower FRASER R in 1824, locating a site for the future FORT LANGLEY.
