YAHK () , pop 168, on the Moyie R in the E KOOTENAY, 64 km south of CRANBROOK, was a thriving SAWMILL centre in the early 1900s. By the 1930s the loggers had left and the community, much depleted in size, settled into its role as a local service centre. The name derives from a KTUNAXA word.
